Find the Right Device

Price doesn't mean it all. Above all, you have to determine the kind of photographer you want to be and understand that each range and type of model meets different needs.

If you want professional results the you should choose use a professional photo editor, choose a SLR model for its superior image quality, the possibility of changing lenses and large format printing. They are however heavy, massive and slower. In a similar price category, we find hybrids, which have similar characteristics, but are more compact. For less, a compact model will still offer much better images than a cell phone.

When the time comes to shop, it must be remembered that the sellers in specialty stores are often more competent than those in large stores to answer your questions and offer models that meet your needs.

Use Automatic Timer A or Av

Every photography beginner is overwhelmed with the many different setting options of his camera when he takes photos manually for the first time. The magic triangle of photography, consisting of ISO value, aperture and exposure time make you sweat a lot, especially in situations where the light changes frequently.

In order to make photography a little easier at least at the beginning, you can set the automatic timer A or Av. It causes the exposure time to be set automatically by the camera, but you still have control over the aperture and the ISO value. Ideally, you can set in your camera that the exposure time does not go below a minimum value in order to exclude blur or motion blur.

You can also go one step further and also switch on the ISO automatic. So you only have the aperture and thus depth of field and amount of light that you can concentrate on. We ourselves use the automatic timer very often and can warmly recommend this to every beginner.

Be patient

Several weeks, even a few months, may be necessary before mastering a new device and thus benefiting it to its full potential. Instead of deleting the worst shots instantly, it can be useful to keep them and then analyze them on a computer. You will be able to see and understand your mistakes.

Give way to your intuition

If a good photo requires preparation, it also requires a dose of spontaneity.

Leave automatic mode

The small support wheels were handy when you learned to ride a bike, but eventually you had to remove them to become a real cyclist. It's the same in the photo. Thus, it is better not to rely too much on automatic mode, but rather to explore all the possibilities of the device.

Master a few basic concepts

The diaphragm: it defines the amount of light that can pass for printing on the sensor.

The shutter speed: this determines the duration of exposure during which the light passes to allow printing.

Sensitivity: we are talking about the ability of the sensor to be impressed by light. Expressed in ISO, this means that when its value decreases, it approaches the natural sensitivity of the sensor and reduces the noise level in the photo. So you have to learn to play with ISO in order to find the desired sharpness.

Value stability

One of the most common mistakes is not holding the device properly. It must be taken with two hands, the left hand supporting the lens from below and the right hand on the handle. By holding the device close to you, your elbows close to your body, you will also have more stability.

We can also consider accessories such as the tripod for landscape photos or the monopod, smaller and easy to carry.

Move forward rather than zoom

Zoom is a handy feature, but if it's possible to get closer to your subject, do it. This will give a better quality image.

Clean the device

It sounds obvious, but it's always a good idea to remember not to use any material to clean your front lens. Please avoid rubbing it with your sweater and use a microfiber cloth.
